Abstract

Welding is the process of combining two or more base metals together on the contact surface with or without additives and fillers. Welding divided into two main categories namely Liquid-State Welding and Solid-State Welding. Friction Stir Welding is one of example in welding Solid-State Welding (Non-Fusion Welding). Aluminum is the most abundant metal in the earth's crust, and the third largest element after oxygen and silicon. Aluminum is a chemical element located in group 13 of period 3 with the symbol Al with atomic number 13. Aluminum is made of 66% bauxite and 33% clay. Aluminum is one of the materials that is often used as a connection raw material for welding Friction Stir Welding. Friction Stir Welding (FSW) or Las Gesek Puntir is a welding rotating process that twists the tool by using heat and vigor energy without additives until take a change delivery to the end of the base metal. Parameter of welding process done in this research that is a tool translation rate, 16 mm/minutes dan 22 mm/minutes with tool of rotations 2000 rpm using a changing spiral form indenter type. Tests conducted are, tensile testing, violent testing and chemical composition testing. The results of this research were found in the translation rate of the tool, heat treatment and welding speed greatly affect the mechanical characteristics of aluminium 1xxx series and 5xxx series that were welded. The translation rate of 22 mm / minute will increase the value of hardness and tensile strength better than the translation rate of 16 mm / minute, but it does not have a significant impact on the chemical elements in it.

Abstract

Abstrak Biodiesel merupakan bahan bakar terbarukan dengan properties hampir menyerupai diesel fuel dan dapat digunakan pada motor diesel direct injection tanpa perubahan sistem bahan bakarnya. Bahan baku biodiesel yang tersedia di Indonesia antara lain kelapa, jatropa curcas dan minyak goreng bekas dapat diubah menjadi biodiesel melalui proses esterifikasi. Penelitian numerik menggunakan FLUENT 6.2 ini dilakukan pada model ruang bakar mexican hat untuk mengetahui distribusi ukuran droplet serta visualisasi semprotan dari ketiga jenis biodiesel tersebut. Pemodelan turbulen yang digunakan adalah RNG k-ε karena dapat memprediksi struktur large scale yang diproduksi oleh semprotan dan squish flow sedangkan pemodelan break-up menggunakan WAVE karena semprotan ini berlangsung dalam angka Weber yang tinggi. Hasil numerik membuktikan bahwa biodiesel minyak goreng bekas memiliki droplet berdiameter lebih besar daripada biodiesel kelapa atau jatropa curcas karena memiliki tegangan permukaan tinggi. Diameter partikel akan berkurang saat penetrasi semakin jauh karena pengaruh gaya aerodinamik yang bekerja pada droplet dan droplet tadi pecah setelah bertumbukan dengan dinding piston. Abstract

As activities increase, people increasingly need safe, comfortable and adequate means of transportation to support mobility. As a result, over the times the amount of traffic and the type of vehicles using the streets is increasing. This causes problems in the transportation sector, one of which is the problem of back pressure, temperature and noise pollution (noise) caused by vehicle exhaust. Therefore, efforts to reduce noise and back pressure from vehicle mufflers need to be done. One of them by using a dual bed catalytic converter made of copper and brass. The dual bed catalytic converter functions as a reduction of emissions while reducing noise and improving engine performance. The purpose of this study was to determine how much improved engine performance by using a copper and brass dual bed catalytic converter on a Honda Vario Techno motorcycle. The research conducted was an experimental research (experimental research). Data analysis uses quantitative descriptive method. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the use of a dual bed catalytic converter made from copper and on a Vario Techno 125 CC motorcycle can increase torque, power and reduce noise levels. The highest increase in torque at 16.70% catalytic brass-copper was obtained at 4000 rpm and copper-brass catalytic at 10.06% obtained at 8000 rpm rotation. The highest increase in effective brass-copper catalytic power of 2.40% was found at 3000 rpm rotation, while the highest copper catalytic copper was 3.20%. Besides the dual bed catalitic made of copper and brass converter in the exhaust Honda Vario Techno 125 CC can reduce noise levels highest on Copper-Brass catalitic of 3.08% obtained at 4000 rpm rotation and a decrease in the highest noise levels at catalitic Brass-Copper at 5.6% at 4000 rpm.

Abstract

AbstractVacuum infusion is a method of making composite materials by using a vacuum pump to drain and spread the resin in molding. Vacuum infusion can strengthen the mechanical properties of a composite material because the manufacturing process is given a negative pressure which makes the resin or matrix permeate better than the hand lay-up method. Vacuum infusion composites can be used as the main ingredient of a vehicle body due to its strong, flexible nature in its form and manufacture so that it can be shaped as desired. This study examines the effect of vacuum pump pressure on two mechanical properties (impact and bending) of a carbon fiber composite material given an epoxy matrix. The results of this study get an increase in strength of mechanical properties with added vacuum pump pressure.Keywords : carbon fiber, composite, increase in strength, mechanical properties, Vacuum Infusion, vacuum pump pressure.

Abstract

Drying is one way to extend the shelf life of agricultural products. The drying process can be done by using conventional methods or a dryer. Dryer could utilize solar energy and others. The disadvantage of conventional drying by using solar energy is that very dependent on weather, while dryer with other energy sources such as electricity and fuel need an additional cost. For this reason, dryer with cheaper energy sources was needed, such as the use of husk waste. In addition to cheap, husk waste was also obtained easily. This study examined the use of dryer using rice husk waste for drying chili. The tool designed consists of husk burning furnaces, heat exchanger pipes and drying cabinets. A heat exchanger pipe is intended so that dry products were not contaminated with burning husks. The results showed that material weight, water content, crushing rate and drying efficiency decreased with time. The temperature of the drying cabinet ranges from 50 to 600 C with an air flow rate of 0.49 m3 / min. this tool can reduce chili water content 85.8% to 58.2% in 900 minutes, with an average efficiency of 22%.

Abstract

Kappa carrageenan is a hydrocolloid compound which is extracted from the red seaweed species of Eucheuma Cottonii. Kappa Carrageenan is widely used in the food processing industry as a thickener, stabilizer and emulsifier. ATC (Alkali Treated Cottonii) which is the intermediate product to obtain SRC (Semi-Refined Carrageenan) will go through further processing, such as chopping and grinding. This research is a continuation of the research undertaken to develop ATC grinding machines. This research is focused on modifying the geometry of grinding tools to obtain finer powder results than former research. The tests that have been performed show that the modifications of tool geometry provide better results, which is able to achieve fine powder up to 100 mesh. But the capacity of this grinding machine is not quite satisfactory because the amount of flour reaches 100 mesh is only 9 grams from 50 grams input.

Abstract

Penelitian ini tentang pemanfaatan kulit pisang kepok menjadi bubuk minuman kopi. Kulit pisang ini umumnya dihaluskan dengan menggunakan blender, namun kelemahannya adalah kapasitas produksinya lebih rendah, sehingga untuk memproduksi dalam jumlah banyak harus dilakukan proses berulang. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, maka dibuatlah sebuah mesin penghalus kulit pisang hingga menjadi bubuk dengan tingkat kehalusan bubuk kopi pada umumnya. Kulit pisang yang digunakan yaitu kulit pisang kepok matang. Proses penghalusan kulit pisang menggunakan mesin dengan menggunakan motor listrik sebesar ½ HP, dengan putaran pada poros penghalus yaitu 1050 rpm. Hasil pengujian dengan bahan uji dengan massa 500 gram yaitu dalam waktu 1 menit menghasilkan 215 gram, waktu 2 menit menghasilkan 225,7 gram, waktu 3 menit menghasilkan 250,7 gram.
